Jesus and Self Care

The Gospels are full of stories about Jesus and the Apostles being surrounded by crowds of people in search of healing. On one occasion, when the Apostles had returned from ministering to countless people, they gathered around Jesus to tell Him all that had happened. Jesus understood their need for self care and says:”Come away to a deserted place all by yourselves and rest a while”. (Mark 6:31)

We often feel that when others are in need, we should focus on them and not ourselves. That may be necessary at times, but caregivers must also be cared for. Self care is not selfish!! We can better serve others if we take time to care for ourselves.
